Queen Maud Lodge #42 Memorial Scholarship
Our lodge's scholarship evolved from the passing of member Julane Hansen in 2012 who requested that donations please go to her church and/or her Daughters of Norway lodge. Enough donations came in to cause us to think how best to invest the funds in honor of our sister. The membership voted to establish a scholarship in Julane's name.
At a mid-life point Julane decided to go back to school with the blessings of her husband Harald. She received a degree in medical records and had a successful career as a medical records manager until her retirement. This became the inspiration to offer a scholarship in 2013 to a woman of Nordic heritage studying in the field of medicine.
The lodge membership voted to continue offering a scholarship by funding a scholarship for 2014, but with the title as seen above. With the experience of awarding two scholarships, we stepped back to evaluate the program in 2015.
The Queen Maud Lodge #42 is now offering a $500 scholarship for 2016 to be granted to a female student of Nordic heritage registered in a full-time program at an accredited high school in their senior year on schedule for a diploma or enrolled in an institution of higher education, i.e. college, university, technical school or vocational school.
This scholarship is open to local Nevada students attending Western Nevada College or a high school in Carson City, Douglas County , Dayton, Virginia City, or Sierra Lutheran High School.
